* Dave Basset agreed to become Palace manager on 17 May 1984, but four days later changed his mind without signing a contract.

(a) 16 Jun 1976 to 1 Oct 1980. Games 189, Won 69, Drawn 68, Lost 52.

(b) 4 Jun 1998 to 15 Jan 1999. Games 37, Won 15, Drawn 7, Lost 15.

(c) In 1998  Palace appointed Attillio Lombardo as caretaker manager on March 13th.  Ray Lewington and Ron Noades replaced him on April 29th until May 10th when the club changed ownership and Terry Venables was appointed.

(d) Steve Kember was twice given the job of caretaker manager. On 29 April 2001, he took charge with just two games of the season remaining, both away, and Palace facing relegation. He managed them to two away victories at Portsmouth and Stockport, and Palace stayed up. Replaced on 31st May by Steve Bruce, Steve Kember again took over the reins on a temporary basis with Terry Bullivant from November 2nd, when Bruce was placed on 'gardening leave' and November 30th when Trevor Francis was appointed. 

(e) Trevor Francis was replaced 'by mutual consent' on April 18th, 2003, and once again Steve Kember and Terry Bullivant took over on a temporary basis for the last four games of the season.
